Maximise your Weekday: an immersive fashion experience

Updated: Oct 8, 2023

Last week, Liberty Belle had the honour of attending 'Maximised', a collaborative fashion event held at Sheffield's Weekday store.

Maximised was a forward-thinking, immersive event that highlighted the multifaceted and versatile simplicity of Weekday's brand.

The event was organised by students from Sheffield Hallam University, in collaboration with Weekday's brand.

The event aimed to 'maximise the collection versatility' of Weekday's new line of garments, while providing attendees with a styling workshop, immersive styling experiences and a quirky runway show.

Upon entering the event, we were welcomed with free cocktails, provided by Shake Baby Shake, and popcorn, as well as the option to take part in a charity raffle for the Sophie Lancaster Foundation.

Before the events opening announcements, attendees were free to wander around the store, which had truly been transformed into an eccentric fashion experience, and indulge in some spontaneous shopping.

The first experience of the night was led by Helen McGuckin, a freelance stylist and lecturer at Sheffield Hallam University, who performed a styling workshop using Weekday garments and externally sourced pieces.

Helen's workshop highlighted the importance of versatility, while styling seemingly basic garments in a creative way. With sustainable attitudes at the forefront of this workshop, Helen used and subverted clothes sourced from local charity shops, giving them new life when pairing them with Weekday basics.

The students then welcomed attendees to take part in an innovative and interactive styling experience. The store had three different stations for this activity, with a model and a rack of previously selected garments at each one.

The idea was to style your own look, thinking creatively about how to use the clothes in an unusual and innovative way.

Maximised's final event of the night was the runway show, showcasing some of the best styling choices from attendees.

Eleanor Clark, project manager of Maximise, told Liberty Belle: "I am extremely proud of myself and all fashion management students that helped make this event possible.

"We all worked really hard over the past two months to make this event the best it could be.

"The turn out was amazing to see and I hope everyone had a great time."

Overall, the night was a success, truly living up to its name of a forward-thinking event, with innovative workshops and experiences for everyone to get involved in.

Students partnered with the Sophie Lancaster Foundation in order to raise awareness of the importance of self-expression and to 'stamp out hatred and intolerance.'

A release by the team from Maximised said: "We are delighted to have the opportunity to raise money for The Sophie Lancaster Foundation at our fashion event with Weekday Sheffield.

"The Sophie Lancaster Foundation is named after Sophie Lancaster, a young woman who was tragically murdered by a group of 5 men for being different, in Bacup, Lancashire on 11 August 2007." You can donate to The Sophie Lancaster Foundation here.
