The runway angels returned again this year with the iconic Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show, but what’s the secret to the exquisite production?
“Did it live up to the hype?”
For me, the answer’s yes! Previously, Victoria’s Secret was attacked for its minimal diversity and constant use of petite supermodels, but this year, the show embraced an immensely diverse line up of angels, including different body types and a cultural diversity. The various performances, including Madison Beer and Missy Elliot, are also a beautiful example of the cultural diversification embedded into the production. There’s no room for scrutiny this year.
One of the biggest secrets into why the show was so beautifully performed, was the array of different women who were involved. Alex Consani- the first transgender woman involved in the show, Jasmine Tookes- the first pregnant lady to open the show, Angel Reese- the first professional athlete to uphold the wings. They’ve shown that all women are beautiful. That’s the best part!
Deciding on a favourite look this year was nearly impossible but if I HAD to choose, Jasmine Tookes’ pearl attire is the one. It’s beautiful how her baby bump sits as a pearl in the shell, which is attached to her back as a form or “wings”. How her naturality has been used to show off pregnancy’s beauty is one of the most iconic looks to ever walk the walkway.
The show expresses how everyday clothes in 2025 are as equivalently sexy as lingerie and that all fashion is alluring, no matter the body that wears it. Look at Iris Law, she walked in a sporty look including a cropped t-shirt and a bobble hat. Fashion is becoming ours again.
Madison Beer’s production was a major highlight, where she performed her new single “Bittersweet”, whilst attiring a pink and silver, eminent angel outfit.
Everything from her vocals to her makeup was beautifully effortless. Her performance of “Bittersweet” added an emotional element to the show as the lyrics revolve around the feelings after a breakup and, as the models walked to the song, it emphasised the strength of women and how they continue to strive towards their goals no matter their fall back. It brought a tear to my eye.
So, what was the secret? To me, it was the diversity, the lack of social norm and the emotion!
