Pitching Guidelines:

What should my pitch include?

  • The subject line of your email should be ‘PITCH: Your draft headline’. Make your draft headline stands out.

  • Begin your pitch with a short summary of your idea.

  • If your piece includes interviews, who do you plan to speak to? Have you already reached out to them? Have they agreed to talk to you?

  • Why is the piece timely? Why do people need to know about it now?

  • Why are you the right person to write the piece?

  • Give us an insight into who you are and what experience you have – you don’t need any previous experience to write for us, but we want to get to know our contributors! We’re more likely to reach out to you with opportunities down the line if we know more about you and your interests. Embedded links to your portfolio/website/other work are perfect.

What happens after I’ve sent my pitch?

  • Please give our editors time to respond to you. You should have received a response within five working days. If you haven’t heard back, send a polite follow up email. If you still haven’t received a response, email Faith on editor.libertybellemag@gmail.com.

  • One of our editors will email you back and if your pitch is accepted, they will give you a deadline, word count and let you know when the piece is scheduled to be published. If the deadline is too soon or you’re unhappy with the word count, please let them know – we want to work with you as best as we can.

  • If the idea isn’t quite right for us, one of our editors will provide you with feedback and make suggestions for alternative publications it may be suitable for.

  • After you’ve written the piece and emailed it over, our editors will get to work and upload it. They’ll email you once it’s been uploaded with a link to where you can find it!

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask any of the Liberty Belle team using the email addresses provided at the start of the document.

We can’t wait to receive your emails – happy pitching!
