What to Wear as the Weather Gets Warmer

Updated: Feb 23

Whilst the weather in England might not necessarily scream fresh starts and spring cleans, with March quickly approaching it’s time to fold up our knits and refresh our OOTDs. As the weather warms up, there are some wardrobe must-haves its time to consider.

Firstly, red is here to stay. After Vogue declared, "Red Was the Color of 2023 in Street Style" in the middle of December, it is without a doubt here to stay. Expect scarlet, maroon, burgundy, and ruby to all be making an appearance in 2024 spring trends.

Red is quickly becoming a staple shade in every wardrobe. Magically, it seems there is a shade that suits everyone- regardless of skin tone, personal style, or hair colour. It matches perfectly with other bold colours, as well as classic neutrals like black, white, nude, and brown. Paired with denim, seemingly the trending material of the season, leather, or even in pops through tights, another trendy move, it adds an edge to any outfit. Long gone are the days of all black or all nude- that pop of colour be it in the form of a cap, shoulder bag or trainers to add life and dimension. Something spring fashion certainly needs.

Speaking of red, the love-or-hate colour combo of red and pink is perfect for this time of year. The Copenhagen girls have been doing it all winter- and with the Scandinavian style trending on TikTok, it's only a matter of time before pink and red takes over this spring.

Now, it’s got to be said, sambas aren’t going anywhere. In fact, they are far more of a spring than winter shoe anyway- with their bright exterior and suede makeup, cold, muddy winter walks were never practical. They feel like the perfect model-off-duty shoes as well as being a cool retro style that all generations appreciate. Likewise, for those wanting to spring up their wardrobe, they can be a really easy introduction of colour to more wintery, monochrome or neutral looks. Whilst it's hard to imagine that colour would match everything, in 2024, it really does!

Accessories are your best friend this spring, too. It can be so daunting when we see season and trend changes, there is a pressure to keep up, throw away all your favourites from the month earlier, and invest in whatever is new this season. But trust me, don’t. If you want to refresh your wardrobe for spring, accessories are a way cheaper and easier option.

Statement sunglasses are a perfect start. You can experiment with different shapes, colours, and styles to transform the vibe of your outfit. They also double as a hair accessory when the sun inevitably hides behind a cloud.

Likewise, 2023 was a year fuelled by cute hair accessories and bows on everything. It’s only right that this spring continues this. Femininity and spring florals are a perfect match, after all. Oversized, frilly scrunchies are an absolute yes for this spring. With a slick back bun, high pony, or even just on the wrist, they’re an accessory that adds something fun and girly to your outfit.

Jackets look good whatever the weather. Practical, but funky, you cannot go wrong. Quilted, embroidered or patterned jackets are a spring staple. Look out for anything leopard print or block coloured, as they are two trends that have been seeping into popular street style over the past couple of months and will for sure boom this spring.

And finally, it’s got to be florals for spring. Unoriginal? Sure, but if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. For 2024, Vogue believes roses specifically will be in. And it makes sense as they give off the ‘old money’ vibe which TikTok fashionistas have been dying over.

Ultimately, spring is about new, fresh perspectives. Shedding some of those winter layers and embracing the warmer weather through our outfits. So, my advice for you is to think bright and bold, if the sun doesn’t brighten your day, make sure your outfit can.
