What the faux? Faux freckles

Freckles have burst into trend this year, with the likes of Meghan Markle, Kylie Jenner and Halsey proudly letting their natural freckles peek through their make-up. Influencers have popularised faux freckles, whilst Instagram released a filter which projects freckles onto your face for a gorgeously sun-kissed look. These dots were once often seen as an imperfection to be covered, however they are now fervently sought after as they instantly add an air of youth and naturalness to your face. Though not all of us are blessed with beautifully freckled skin, there are many ways to replicate the look!

Products on the market, such as Freck by Beauty Bay (£17) or Lottie London Freckle Tint (£7), allow you to dot dark brown, natural-looking faux freckles onto your finished make up. I would personally recommend the latter as they both yield the same great results, and Freck comes in a ridiculously small bottle in comparison! Dab the tiny applicator underneath the eyes, spreading out towards the cheeks and also around the lips if you want an even more natural look. Press into them with your fingertip or a sponge to blot them into your skin and you should end up with perfectly natural-looking freckles.

If you’re like me and don’t want to splurge on an entirely new product to add faux freckles to your look, then it is equally as possible to achieve them without. I use a technique inspired by CC Clarke Beauty’s YouTube tutorial. Using a spoolie eyebrow brush and eyebrow gel or pomade, I create a blend of uniquely sized spots beneath my eyes and out towards my cheeks. I have a few faint natural freckles which I love to enhance and use as a guide! Experimentation is key to finding the perfect balance with your own unique face and remember it’s always possible to gently press over any mistakes with your finger to blur them out. After I’m happy with my look, I lightly dust translucent setting powder over to set them in place!

Other methods of enhancing your makeup with faux freckles include using fake tan, an eyebrow pencil or even henna. Find what works for you, have fun, and feel free to send us any pictures of your cute freckle looks!
