Dress for yourself this Valentine's Day

Updated: Feb 13, 2022

We all know that the season of love is here when a variety of stores ranging from Primark to Morrisons start selling Valentines-themed gifts. A lot of people believe that the best way to celebrate is a romantic dinner date. However, if wearing your fanciest dress is nowhere near your plans this year, there are several alternatives to have fun and look glamorous.

In my opinion, fashion is a matter of expression. Indeed, outfits are a powerful showcase for particular identities and lifestyles, therefore regardless of whether you have plans or not, the first thing that you need to remember is that the outfit choice should make you feel comfortable.

Personally, the perfect formula is a combination of something cute, yet formal; Something you could wear on multiple occasions.

Nonetheless, some limitations do apply. For instance, if your perfect Valentine’s Day plan consists of binge-watching Netflix shows with your partner then there is no point wearing a dress and heels. Likewise, if you plan to celebrate on a night out with your friends, then a suitable choice could be wearing a shirt or a sparkly top alongside jeans.

Sheffield might not be a fashion capital but there is no denying that the enormous variety of vintage and charity shops provides an excellent inspiration to find fabulous fashion bargains. For example, I even managed to nab a Ted Baker suit for just under £10 in a charity shop in Crookes.

If this year you are celebrating milestones in the likes of a first anniversary or your first Valentine, why not treat yourself to a new outfit. Or if you are feeling creative, take this as an opportunity to experiment with what you already have in the wardrobe.

Finally, do not stress too much. This Valentine’s Day the choice is yours and you will look fabulous no matter what.
