The trending aesthetics to help you stay warm and stylish this winter

Updated: Oct 8, 2023

As the chillier months roll in, do you ever find yourself retiring your individual style for the same puffer jacket and scarf every day? While cosy, it's difficult to accommodate the colder weather while expressing our inner fashionista! But fear not, there are plenty of winter trends and styles that allow you to show off your style while staying warm.

While you should always embrace your own style, there’s no harm in taking notes from the runway and street trends if you’re stuck for inspiration. Here’s Liberty Belle’s rundown of the best winter aesthetics.

Indie Sleaze

Search ‘indie sleaze’ on Pinterest and you’ll probably be met with streams of noughties Kate Moss looks. Another sub-aesthetic of the Y2K revival, the indie sleaze look plays on grunge and hipster aesthetics from the early 2000s.

Think Jenny Humphrey in Gossip Girl. Wearers should anticipate investing in a lot of lace, side-swept bangs, and ripped tees if they want to achieve the indie sleaze look this autumn.

This look is perfect for the cold weather as indie sleaze often incorporates layering, leather boots, and denim, perfect for keeping warm.

The Frazzled British Woman:

First coined by RUSSH Magazine, this look can be summarised by two words: Bridget Jones.

The quintessentially British look is characterised by claw-clipped hair and suede skirts. The style requires little effort but satisfies our love for nostalgic noughties movie fashion. Wearers can usually be found in a quirky Camden bookstore wearing layered sweaters, knitted hats, and brightly coloured scarves.

On Maryam Nassir Zadeh's and Coach's S/S23 runway, the look was imagined in sheer tank tops, belted loose cardis, and long skirts.

The French Girl

As suggested by its not-so-ambiguous name, the French girl aesthetic encompasses the Parisian look. Blazers, high collars, and nude hues give the wearer an effortlessly chic winter look.

The aesthetic was pioneered by influencers like Grace Foley who are often found on our feed in a camel trench coat and Chanel skirt pairing.

Found on the runways of Adam Lippes and Peter Do this New York Fashion Week, expect long blazers, berets, and cream garments to dominate the streets this season.
