Shopping sustainably in Sheffield

Updated: Oct 4, 2023

Trying to shop sustainably whenever you can is a great habit to get into. It means better choices for the environment, yourself, and possibly even your bank balance. If you can start as a student you’ll get into a great habit, but knowing where to start is half of the battle, so here are my top picks for sustainable shopping in Sheffield.

Unwrapped:

Unwrapped is a zero-waste vegetarian and vegan shop in the heart of Crookes. They sell all of the household essentials from pasta to snacks, to washing up liquid, but without single-use packaging. When shopping at Unwrapped you take your own reusable containers (although you can also buy containers there) and only take home the amount that you need. It’s a great shop for avoiding food waste and helping you save money.

Preloved Kilo:

Preloved Kilo is located on Division Street and is one of the best vintage shops in Sheffield. It boasts a huge range of second-hand vintage clothes from tons of well-known brands and it’s also really affordable. A kilo of clothing is just £15, but everything that you buy is priced by weight so items can start from around 90p.

Beanies:

Beanies is an organic grocery shop in Crookesmoor. They sell everything from organic fruit and vegetables to vegan pick and mix. They have a zero-waste household section that stocks reusable containers and eco-friendly cleaning products, and almost everything that they stock is vegan or vegetarian-friendly. The best bit about Beanies is their Community Market, which takes place every couple of months, hosting independent business owners and their range of organic foods, drinks and gifts.
