REVIEW: Turtle Bay's new autumn cocktails

Updated: Oct 8, 2023

Turtle Bay have released five brand new cocktails this autumn, and there is something for everyone! Find out what we thought about them.

Tobago Tea

A Caribbean twist on a Long Island Iced Tea, the Tobago Tea incorporates four different spirits into the boozy drink – Duppy White rum, vodka, tequila, and gin. It’s mixed with mango juice, grapefruit, and ice (in place of the usual cola in a Long Island) to create a beautiful orange gradient. Though this claims the award for the most different alcohols used, it doesn’t overpower the tropical drink.

Jamrock Punch

The only new cocktail that doesn’t feature any rum, the Jamrock Punch, is a fruity and refreshing gin-based beverage. The drink strikes the perfect balance between sweet and sour, with a hint of the bitterness of the grapefruit and lime cutting through the sweetness of the passionfruit and strawberry. I encourage anyone who enjoys a light, fruity cocktail to give this a try!

Caribbean Candy Sour

Another twist on a classic, the Caribbean Candy Sour is similar to an Amaretto Sour with a strong apple flavour. The cocktail contains Kingston 62 rum, amaretto, sour green melon liquor and sweet apple served over crushed ice. If you’re a fan of Apple Sourz, you’ll love this drink; it tastes like a sweeter, less sickly version that is easy to drink. The green beverage is also very ‘Instagram-able’ and gives off major Halloween vibes just in time for spooky season.

Dessert Island

If you have a sweet tooth, look no further than the Dessert Island: this creamy cocktail is essentially a pudding in a glass! This salted caramel martini is made up of dark rum, Tia Maria, cold brew coffee, and salted caramel sauce; the delicious smell of a caramel latte strikes you first. The consistency is smooth and silky, and though it’s rich in flavour it isn’t too sickly – however you might struggle to drink more than one of these! This is also the only cocktail out of the five that isn’t vegan.

Tingwray

On the other side of the spectrum, the Tingwray is a tangy rum-based cocktail. It’s comparable to a classic mojito, with the sourness of the lime and zesty grapefruit soda, Ting, flavouring the drink. This simple cocktail features two types of rum – Wray & Nephew and white rum – and tastes the strongest out of the new menu. This was my personal favourite, and I would recommend it to anyone who prefers a less sweet cocktail.
