Spooky must-do activities this Halloween

Spooky season is upon us and with Halloween just around the corner, it’s time to pick a costume and throw yourself into it. Now that places are open again and we can enjoy the autumn months, there are so many activities you can get involved in with your friends and family this October.

Pumpkin picking

Every autumn, one of my favourite places to go is a pumpkin patch. It is such a wholesome activity to do with friends and family and a perfect place to take autumnal, aesthetic Instagram pictures. There are multiple patches near Sheffield which are easy to drive to.

One patch is on Eastfield Farm, Doncaster (DN11 9JD) and is open daily from 10am until 5pm throughout this month. No booking is required and you can enter for free.

Graves Park Animal Farm (S8 8LJ) will also be open for pumpkin picking from 10am until 3:30pm from the 25 to 31 October. With free entry and no booking required, this is too good to miss out on.

Carving pumpkins

Of course once you've picked your pumpkins, you have to carve them – and why not make it a house or flat activity? Look on Pinterest for some design inspirations and get carving!

Halloween baking

If you would like some sweet treats this Halloween, why not do some baking? A popular October bake is Rice Krispie Treat Pumpkins – simple to make, yet so tasty, and they're guaranteed to be a hit among your friends. The sweet pumpkin is made from Rice Krispies, butter, marshmallows and food colouring, and is decorated with a mini Rolo and a green M&M.

Jane’s Patisserie is also a great place to find new recipes. The Pumpkin Patch Brownies, Ghost Cupcakes and Halloween Cookie Bars caught my eye.

Club nights

The Foundry is well-known for its annual ‘Halloween Freaks Festival’ event and as it was cancelled last year, this time around it's sure to be better than ever. If you were lucky enough to get your hands on a ticket, you can expect a silent disco and different rooms representing multiple Foundry nights out, including Tuesday Club and Pop Tarts, with over 3,000 students attending.

Other nights out happening in Sheffield across the Halloween period include ‘Scary Tarts’ at the Foundry, ‘Halloween Spooktacular’ at The Leadmill Club and ‘Nightmare on Eyre Street’ at Code.
