Liberty Belle's guide to the best places in Sheffield

For over a year now we have been restricted with the activities we can do, meaning that most uni students in Sheffield haven’t been able to explore the city’s full potential. On that note, here is the only list you will need to explore every corner of the famous steel city!

Ski Village

Closing in 2012 and located near Kelham Island, the Sheffield Ski Village was once one of the largest artificial ski resorts in Europe. Now, you can take walks around the abandoned village and look out over picturesque views of the city. The Arts Tower, Royal Hallamshire Hospital and the Town Hall are all notable landmarks that can be seen from this location.

Botanical Gardens

The Botanical Gardens are an asset to the green spaces in the steel city. Located between Endcliffe Park and The University of Sheffield, the gardens were first opened in 1836 and consist of 19 acres of land. There are over 5,000 different species of plants and it is a great place to go to when you want to wind down and relax.

The Peak District

One of the most attractive features about Sheffield is its prime location situated on the edge of the mesmerizing Peak District. Bamford Edge, Ladybower Reservoir and Rivelin Valley are all worth visiting, not forgetting towns such as Bakewell and Buxton. The best way to reach the “The Peaks” is by bus, with access to lots of different scenic places.

Bole Hills

A favourite among uni students, Bole Hills is definitely worth the visit. The best time to go, in my opinion, would be just before sunset - you can’t forget to buy food from one of the many Crookes high street chip shops on the way there, of course. With views looking out over the Rivelin Valley skyline, a sunset evening at Bole Hills is not one to miss!

Mayfield Alpaca Farm

Last but not least, my favourite place to visit in Sheffield. Mayfield Alpaca Farm looks after rescue animals, as well as Alpacas of course. Reindeer, pigs and small animals are all included in the experience. When you get there, you can even buy Alpaca food - although make sure you try and ration it to a few Alpacas, not just one! (They can be greedy.)

Where would you recommend people visit in Sheffield when restrictions are fully lifted?
