How to shop on a budget

If there is one thing my mother taught me well, it is that a bargain is always a good thing. I am a self-diagnosed shopaholic, but shopping at university is challenging for almost every student. Here are a few tips on how to fulfill your love for shopping without breaking the bank.

Firstly, always look in charity shops. They are often neglected by young people as they assume they will struggle to find anything age-appropriate. I once had this perception too, but I have since discovered that charity shops contain some amazing finds. Some of the items that I have picked up include brand new Miss Selfridge heels, Sweaty Betty gym shorts and even House of CB dresses, all for very affordable prices. If you are looking for a bargain, charity shops are a great place to start!

TK Maxx is perfect for shopping on a budget. They offer everything from accessories to sportswear to stationery, all without breaking the bank. If you are thinking ahead, this is an ideal place to look for Christmas shopping too. The items are usually from quality brands. Zara items frequently appear, along with Puma and Bershka. 

My next tip is to never pay full price for anything. If you do not already have an NUS card, UNiDAYS or Student Beans, get them! They all offer discounts for students who need to shop on a budget, and they may have special offers at your favourite retailers. The other place to look is, of course, the sales. Sales are the perfect opportunity to look for that item you had your eye on but could not afford. Tip: when shopping in Topshop, your student discount card bags you a further 10% off sale prices too!

Finally, never underestimate the power of Primark. Primark is a fabulous place to shop if you know what to look for. Personally, I love Primark as it is affordable and they are working towards improving their sustainable footprint; they have a range of organic and recycled products, not to mention all of their beauty and skincare is cruelty free! Their homeware section will also allow you to buy some new room decor without costing you a mini fortune.
