The Best Dressed Celebs on the 2024 Oscars Red Carpet

The 2024 Academy Award attendees set the fashion bar high.

Channelling classic film star elegance, there were plenty of best dressed looks to choose from throughout the night.

A clear favourite on social media was Lupita Nyong’o’s custom Armani Privé dress. It was baby blue, covered in crystals, and completed with a waistline of eye-catching blue feathers - an understandable winner. She topped it off with a collection of diamond jewellery and a lowkey makeup look, letting the dress really have its moment. The look also paid homage to a similar blue gown she wore ten years ago, giving a nod to her first Oscar win in 2014 - Best Supporting Actress for 12 Years a Slave.

Lupita was met with even more fashion praise later in the evening when she arrived at the Vanity Fair Oscar Party in her second Armani dress of the day. Turning heads in a fully sequined halter neck dress, she nailed the glamour all night long.

Even some of the best dressed guests couldn't escape from an inevitable fashion mishap, though.

Emma Stone, winner of the Best Actress Award for her performance in Poor Things, looked stunning in a pale green Louis Vuitton gown that emulated the exaggerated angles of the movie's costuming. Still, as she stepped onto the stage to accept her award it was clear the dress was broken. When she turned away from the camera everyone could see that the back zipper had busted and the corset underneath was exposed, something she noted in her speech - blaming Ryan Gosling's performance of 'I'm Just Ken.'

With many luxury fashion houses battling it out to dress the top nominees, it's safe to assume that the whole Louis Vuitton team must have been mortified by this moment, with their Instagram comments flooded with criticism. Nonetheless, Emma dealt with the issue effortlessly.

While typically menwear at the Oscars leans less towards avante-garde in comparison to the women, actors Colman Domingo and Eugene Lee Yang turned out in full force.

Domingo took a Louis Vuitton black suit to the next level: wearing a dazzling brooch bow tie, blingy buttons, and topping it off with a pair of cowboy boots. The Best Actor nominee, for his performance in Netflix's Rustin, proved that you can easily maintain a ‘masculine’ look while still experimenting with accessories.

Eugene Lee Yang’s look was a little different. Consisting of a bold red custom two-piece from Walter Mendez, it gave the appearance of a skirt. However, Eugene later confirmed via his Instagram that it was "actually pants." The flamboyant outfit was well received online and reminded some fans of Billy Porter’s infamous velvet tuxedo gown from the 2019 Oscars.

Would it even be a ‘best dressed’ list if Zendaya wasn’t mentioned? Of course, the 27-year-old actress never misses when it comes to red carpet style, thanks to Law Roach. The Dune actress looked incredible in a one-shoulder Armani Privé gown.

The pale pink dress featured silver print details, but Zendaya kept the rest minimal by styling the outfit with a chunky pair of earrings under her bob and a thick silver bracelet. It seems many agree that Zendaya continuously brings out show-stopping outfits, with ELLE magazine crowning her ‘queen of the red carpet’ at this weekend’s Oscars.

Louis Vuitton and Giorgio Armani appear to have overtaken the other luxury brands at the 96th Academy Awards, both gaining acclamation for dressing some of the biggest names in showbiz.

We can only hope that next year’s Oscar guests will live up to this standard!
