The best places for a night out in Sheffield

Updated: Mar 12, 2022

Whilst Sheffield may not spring to mind as the best place to go for a night out, it hosts a wide variety of fun places you can spend your evening. From West Street to the local pubs there are multiple venues to explore the nightlife of the Steel City.

The most popular area for student bar crawls is West Street which is home to popular venues like Tigerworks and West Street Live. Although these nights out could become pricey you can always rely on a £5 round in Tigerworks. Within this round you get a mixer, jagerbomb, shot and a VK all for £5 what is not to love? The staple West Street bar crawl would have start at Molly Malones leading to Tigerworks then Players and finally ending the night with West Street Live. The only down side to West Street is the capacity of most venues is small so queueing is sometimes required. Conveniently for students the street is dotted with multiple fast food shops to treat yourself to a kebab after a night on the dance floor.

For students, unmissable club nights include Pop Tarts on a Saturday and Roar Wednesdays at the SU. Roar offers an energetic blend of classic pop mixed with the occasional electronic remix and is the night of the week that all sport societies have a social. Pop Tarts focuses on more generic pop and is one of the most popular event at Foundry so make sure to buy your tickets in advance.

The local pubs in Sheffield must not be underestimated. Even in the densest student areas there are some outstanding pubs. A student favourite is the Washington, and despite it not being a particularly student oriented establishment, it deserves a visit for the live music nights. Other honourable pub mentions include: The Fox and Duck, The Cavendish and the Beehive.
