Finding the perfect Valentine’s gift

Updated: Feb 23, 2021

Thinking of something for Valentine’s Day is hard. To help you find a suitable gift for your Valentine, Miriam Kuepper has compiled a few ideas for our lovely Liberty Belle readers.

Whether you’ve been together for a while or whether the relationship is still fresh, Valentine’s Day is always a little bit of a grey area. How much are you supposed to gift and what is too much?

New Relationships

When you haven’t been in the relationship for a while, it can be hard to find a gift that fits their personality and doesn’t break the bank. Maybe these ideas can help:

A box of chocolate

You can really never go wrong with this gift! Maybe you know them well enough even to get them their favourite brand of chocolate? My gift favourite is Hotel Chocolat , as nothing says kiss me endlessly on Valentine’s Day like the sweet taste of chocolate on someone’s lips.

A bottle of nice booze

Now that Dry January is over, a bottle of their favourite Gin or Whiskey will make your Valentine’s heart grow fonder. Indulge in some pre-pandemic memories over a drink and enjoy your evening. Top tip: Great present if your special someone is far away and you both want to share a drink – just order them a bottle and buy one for yourself, too.

A funny card

This seems like a no-brainer but it’s literally the best gift. You can find great Valentine’s Day cards (or greeting cards for any other occasion) on Thortful.com, that feature cards with a funny pun or a cute doodle drawing. If you feel like a card is not enough, you might want to get the chocolate card version, where your card is accompanied with a few mini-chocolates or one big bar. This is time sensitive: Order today to deliver your thoughtful card on time (or just do your own ;-))

Long-term relationship

Although you surely know your partner well after being together for several months, you might have already exhausted all your gift ideas. You might also want to spend a little more on the gift than in a fairly new relationship. Worry not, I got you covered!

A (personalised) wallet

This is a suitable gift as most people don’t realise their old wallet is falling apart (but others do). Make sure there’s enough space for a few cards (at least five!) and some coins.

Little disclaimer: It’s preferable to know your partner’s wallet layout, as you don’t want to give them something they are not likely to use. Good places to look for nice leather wallet are Zalando or – if you prefer something a little more personal – a wallet with your Valentine’s initials on (found on Etsy).

Pamper Kit

In times like these, self-care is essential. After procrastinating half the day and then getting stressed about the amount of work that’s still left to do, you need to press your reset button once in a while with a pamper day. Why not get your partner some nice shower gel (or foam!) and a bath bomb? I like to gift sets from Rituals or The Body Shop , as they are amicable with sensitive skin and smell incredible.

A Trip Planner

This seems a little daunting at first but hear me out: Spend some time with your partner planning all the trips you want to go on with them once the pandemic is over. You can make a list of all the places and sights you agree on and even google what kind of hotel you’d want to stay at. My boyfriend and I found this to be a welcome escape from our pandemic-ridden everyday life. To help you with the planning, gift your partner a book like this and maybe even a voucher to go to one of the places on your list.
