Festival style guide: Tips and tricks to stand out

Summer is on the horizon and that means festivals are too! With lockdown restrictions easing and the government’s announcement that events such as club nights and festivals will get the go-ahead from the 21st of June, it’s time to update your wardrobe and get ready to party like never before. Festivals are the perfect place to be carefree, wear whatever you want and just have fun.

Having been a keen Leeds Festival goer for three years in a row before the pandemic hit, I have seen and dressed in all sorts of styles while staying adaptable to the unpredictable British weather.

One trend that is a must every year is going crazy with glitter. Glitter in your hair, on your face and wearing sparkly clothes always makes you stand out. Stick-on gems around your eyes have always been popular and can be bought on Amazon or Shrine, depending on your budget.

Patchwork tops and jackets are trending right now and are proving popular on websites like Depop. They would look great with shorts or flares. From my experience, Depop is a great place to buy affordable accessories for festivals including vintage belt bags, bucket hats and round sunglasses, if you’re going for that 90s look. Depending on the style you’re going for, raiding a vintage shop or charity shop may get you some unique items that you wouldn’t otherwise buy online, and ensures you won’t be matching with anyone else at the festival.

If you don’t want to wear shorts and a cute top, then switch it up for a vintage tracksuit look. A 90’s style windbreaker with a crop top underneath and flared tracksuit bottoms is a super comfy outfit but also very on-trend and will keep you a bit warmer on those cooler evenings.

For the evening headliners or silent disco, neon is a must. Playing around with neon makeup is fun when you’re getting ready at the campsite with friends but also beneficial as they’ll be able to see you in the dark. Neon mesh tops, neon bodysuits and belt bags are also eye-catching looks and look great in photos.

Whatever festival you attend this summer, have fun with what you wear and make the most of it. Don’t shy away from bold colours or accessories you wouldn’t normally put on and most importantly, enjoy yourself!
