Discovering the beauty of hijab

The hijab is more than just a piece of cloth, it holds deep cultural, religious and personal significance for millions of Muslim women around the world. A variety of styles and fabrics make the hijab not only a tradition but also a fashionable item for modern Muslim women. Let's explore the beauty and artistry behind hijab fashion.

There are many options and combinations when it comes to headscarf fashion. Silk headscarves are the perfect choice for a luxurious headscarf style for special occasions. They usually come in rectangular and square cuts. Since silk is smooth, it needs to be secured with a headband and pins. Modal's are great for everyday use. It is soft and very versatile. It can be worn as an extra layered scarf on a refreshing fall day. Chiffon is a staple in many women's wardrobes. A luxurious chiffon headscarf is the foundation of any special occasion outfit. This fabric is light and silky and needs to be paired with an inner scarf, preferably the same colour as the headscarf, and secured with pins. Rayon viscose has a soft, light, and luxurious texture. It often uses durable, machine-washable fabrics and is also easy to wear.

The hijab brand-VELA, derived from the Latin word for "veil", was founded in 2009 with the bold goal of changing the world's view of hijabs and modest fashion. Sister duo Marwa and Tasneem Atik founded the company after spotting a gap in the market. They began developing and inventing unique designs that quickly became popular in the modest fashion world. The company is now a globally recognised brand focused on providing the most comfortable scarves in the world.  All products are designed in-house by Marwa and her team; from custom colours to breathable fabrics, scarves are created to serve and celebrate the VELA community. They work closely with cotton mills in southern India and a small team of female-led artisans to cultivate one-of-a-kind fabrics.

In the lives of many Muslim women, the hijab is not only an expression of faith but also a personal identity. However, in a world where misunderstandings about the hijab persist, it can sometimes be a target of prejudice. By exploring its beauty and meaning, I hope people can foster a greater appreciation for Muslim culture and discover the beauty of the hijab.
