Behind the scenes of Runway Idol: The rehearsal

Summer time in Sheffield…what an underrated season!

Although most students return home during the summer break, the 'Steel City' never ceases to radiate a special atmosphere, and outside of Tramlines, there are other events sprinkled around in a true Sheffield spirit. Of course, Runway Idol is at the top of our list.

For those who don't know, Runway Idol remains Sheffield’s biggest fashion charity event, and this year will support and promote Mind and the Children's Hospital Charity. I had the opportunity to attend one of the rehearsals in preparation for the final show on the 5th of August, giving me an insight into what's to come.

The best aspect of the rehearsal remained the diversity of both the models and the catwalk themes. This year Runway Idol will present 17 models alongside four guest models.

Despite all of the models differing in terms of height, age, and experience, no one can deny that each and every one proudly wielded their personal style. I can guarantee the whole of Sheffield is looking forward to the final show to see their confidence and charisma on the night of the event.

I only got a glimpse into the first half of Runway Idol at this rehearsal, as the second half will be rehearsed later on in the week. Nonetheless, even with only half of the show, I was blown away.

The rehearsal really highlighted the organisation, dedication, and passion that James Clarke, the mind behind Runway idol, puts in every year to ensure that the event runs smoothly.

Another thing that makes the 4th edition of Runway Idol special is the post-pandemic context. The show will be a celebration of diversity and confidence, something we may have missed out on being able to do during the pandemic.

Without adding too many spoilers for the final event, expect inspiring speeches, incredible performances, and the perfect music soundtrack.

I was particularly impressed by the soundtrack as the songs were chosen really matched the catwalk themes. Speaking of catwalks, the finale will have a surprising, but relatable topic. All will be revealed at the show.

The day came to an end with a group photo to celebrate everyone’s outstanding, creating a sense of camaraderie.

Runway Idol does not simply showcase upcoming artists, local brands and fashion. In fact, Runway idol stands for a philanthropic cause and diversity within fashion which is a topic that many people are passionate about. It’s just about perfect.
