There was a time where choosing what to watch was the most difficult part of sitting down to enjoy some TV- now it is choosing where to watch it. Between Disney+, Netflix and Amazon Prime, the modern streaming landscape feels like a full-blown entertainment war. Each platform promises the biggest library, best originals and smoothest experience, but only one might actually deserve your money and time.

Disney+ is where family favourites meet blockbuster franchises. The platform’s biggest

strength is its exclusive library, with Pixar, Marvel and Star Wars all under one roof. Its

UK partnership with Hulu also brings acclaimed shows like Only Murders In The Building and The Bear to the service. However, this can also be limiting, and if you aren’t in the mood for a Disney classic, an intergalactic battle or a superhero coming to save the day, Disney+’s catalog may not be for you. Still, for fans of nostalgia and a quick cinema to streaming

service turnaround, Disney+ may be perfect.

Amazon Prime is probably the most unpredictable streaming service. Prime Video’s interface is less of a curated gallery and more of a cluttered shop; everything is here, but you may have to dig. Its biggest advantage is its variety. With prestige originals like The Boys and The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel sitting next to indie gems and straight-to-streaming oddities, the recommendation algorithm is certainly flawed, especially with not every movie available being included within your subscription. However, it can be argued that the value of this service is undeniable, despite its faults, due to its bundled in Amazon shopping perks.

Netflix remains the benchmark for redefining how we watch TV. Its range is unmatched, from international hits like Alice in Borderland and Squid Game, to award-winning and critically-acclaimed series’ like Adolescence and Stranger Things. Netflix has the best

recommendation algorithm out of all streaming platforms, and the constant stream of original and classic content keeps the service feeling fresh. The downside? Rising prices, the new inability to share the service, frequent series cancellations and the occasional sense of quantity over quality. Netflix has something for everyone, but is slowly becoming a more and more inaccessible platform.

When it comes to streaming services, there is no one-size-fits-all winner. Disney+ is perfect for family favourites and nostalgia, Amazon Prime wins on variety and Netflix still reigns with its large catalogue and recommendation system. However, when it comes down to it, Netflix wears the crown. Its blend of global hits, constant new releases and a sleek user experience keeps it one step ahead of the competition for now.
