#WeCantLoseLeadmill: A round up of the best Leadmill club nights to attend

Updated: Apr 3, 2022

The Leadmill shared some heartbreaking news via social media explaining their landlord is trying to evict them from the iconic warehouse on Leadmill Road.

The club and music venue have launched a social media campaign with the hashtag #WeCantLoseLeadmill with the intention of sharing this news, but also asking fans of the venue to share their favourite memories of gigs and club nights there.

Since becoming a student here in Sheffield, The Leadmill has become one of my favourite venues to go to on a night out, and here is a round up of my favourite times spent there.

Ruby and her friends at The Leadmill

Club Tropicana

Club Tropicana is always a hit. It has everything from 80s music and inflatable flamingos to specialty cocktail buckets. The last time me and my housemates went, we even brought home a souvenir of an inflatable monkey.

Leadmill Fridays

The Leadmill is definitely the place to be on Friday nights in Sheffield. There are exclusive Friday drinks offers with a Leadmill regulars card, which is only £4 to purchase and definitely worth it if you are a frequent Leadmill visitor – this includes 80p vodka mixers and £5 rounds that include 1 J-bomb, 1 vodka mixer, 1 shot and a cheeky vimto.

In November, The Leadmill even had a free entry incentive for the Cathedral Archer Project. If you bought either a bag of sugar, a box of tea, a pair of socks, gloves or a sleeping bag, you could have free entry to Leadmill Fridays. How many other clubs are helping to provide support for the homeless in Sheffield?

Taylor Swift Themed Nights

I recently went to Midnight Memories: Styles v Swift at The Leadmill with my friends and we had the best time dancing and singing to all our favourite songs, including the ten minute version of All Too Well. There were even specialist cocktails when I went, and me and my friends had a ‘Wildest Dreams’ inspired one. They also ran an event called ‘Taylor’s Version’ which was so popular they had to put another night on.

Silent Disco

I love the silent disco as there are three different channels to choose from so there is something for everyone. If you’re tuned into the indie channel, you’re likely to hear songs from the likes of Sam Fender, Arctic Monkeys and Tame Impala. There is also a chart channel with names that are huge right now, including Doja Cat, Jack Harlow and Stormzy. And finally there is also a rock channel with artists such as Green Day, Paramore and Bring Me The Horizon.

Tramlines After Parties

Last year, Tramlines was finally back and in full swing. For those that wanted to carry on the party, The Leadmill ran after events for festival-goers. There were two different rooms available, one with classic songs and the other with non-stop party anthems. On the Saturday, the rooms were different: one was described as disco, funk and soul and the other as pop-punk, emo and rock.

These are just my five top picks but there are so many more amazing nights to be had at The Leadmill, including their live music and comedy scene.

It really would be a tragedy to lose such an iconic Sheffield venue and we must do everything we can as a city to keep it open.
