As the days get shorter and the Sheffield winds get stronger, it feels like the perfect time to
snuggle up in bed and binge some TV. Keep reading for some great Autumn
recommendations to keep you cosy and entertained!
This time of year is when British telly really shines. It feels like there’s something on every
evening, from The Great British Bake Off, to Big Brother, The Celebrity Traitors, RuPaul’s
Drag Race, Strictly Come Dancing and Taskmaster. If you want something to follow each
week, pop one of these on with your housemates, family or on your own! And if you’re not
entertained enough, they have masses of previous series to binge watch afterwards, and
endless social media coverage and memes to follow.
‘Gilmore Girls’ might just be the ultimate Autumn recommendation because of its cosy,
nostalgic atmosphere. It's perfectly bingeable, with seven seasons, and a great way for uni
students to romanticise their studies and strive for Rory’s work ethic - while procrastinating by bingeing the show.
‘Pretty Little Liars’ is my ultimate Autumn binge watch. The gloomy vibe as the girls, and
viewers, attempt to solve the mystery of the stalker known as ‘A’ is impossible not to get
sucked into. My favourite activity is getting a first-time viewer into the show to indulge all of their crazy theories and laugh at their reactions to all the insane plot twists.
Sitcoms are also perfect for autumn time. Whether you put it on as background noise for your midday nap, or you become fully engrossed in the storylines, their multi-season spansmake it the perfect cosy binge. Throw on an established favourite, or something new you’ve been meaning to watch for years. Some great examples include ‘Modern Family’,
‘Superstore’ ‘Schitt’s Creek’, ‘The Office’ and, of course, ‘Friends’.
Even though Halloween has ended, Autumn has a perpetual spooky energy. Why not pop on
one of the classic supernatural teen dramas that ruled the 2010s? From vampires to
werewolves, there are endless worlds to be sucked into, like ‘Teen Wolf’, ‘The Vampire Diaries’, ‘Once Upon a Time’ and ‘Supernatural’. These are definitely nostalgic for many of
us, and this time of year might be perfect for a rewatch, or even a first time viewing. But
beware, many of the later seasons often go off the rails - but I think that just heightens the entertainment value.
