Sheffield is home to an incredible live music scene, both big and small. When you look beyond Foundry, you’ll discover an incredible array of venues platforming musicians spanning across various genres. Here are some of the best:

  1. Sidney & Matilda: Located on the corner of Sidney Street and Matilda Street in the City Centre, Sidney’s is the place to be for a good night of live music. Sheffield’s own Music Culture Society regularly puts on student-run gigs here. The venue has multiple performance spaces of different sizes, and has its own bar serving up a great range of drinks.

  1. Factory Floor: Factory Floor is one of the many venues in the Neepsend/Kelham area that regularly puts on events for lovers of all music genres. It operates out of a former spring factory, and boasts cutting-edge audio systems. Though drinks can be quite expensive for a student budget, you’re guaranteed a good night at Factory Floor.

  1. Gut Level: Gut Level is more than a venue- it’s a safe space for everyone. The DIY space on Chapel Walk in the heart of the city operates a membership system, and hosts gigs, club nights, film screenings, workshops and even communal meals. Memberships start at just £2 annually, and by doing that you’ll be supporting a truly grassroots venue with inclusivity at its core. You’ll also be able to attend the regular gigs they put on.

  1. The Washington: The Washy isn’t your average pub. Not only do they consistently host a great range of bands and DJs, but they’re also always free entry, which is a massive bonus. It’s also just a great place to go for a drink; the cosy yet eclectic decor definitely makes The Washington stand out from other Sheffield pubs.

  1.  Plot 22: If you prefer a DJ over a band, then Plot 22 is for you. Located in the Castlegate area, they host DJs spanning across genres like house, jungle and hip-hop. They also hold music production workshops and sober socials. So, if you’re a raver you should add Plot 22 to your radar.
