What are the best Christmas films of all time? This is a topic that could cause a serious debate in any household, with most parents demanding that ‘It’s a wonderful life’ deserves the No.1 spot, rather than titles such as ‘The Grinch’.
Here are MY top 5 Christmas movies – and this isn’t up for debate...
No.5: Bad Moms Christmas (2017)
'Bad Moms Christmas' is the sequel to the original 2016 film, starring Mila Kunis, Kristen Bell and Kathryn Hahn. The story of three best friends, with very different personalities, who are simply done with being unappreciated and ridiculed by their partners, children and parents.
Since this film is full of innuendos and some strong language, it may not be perfect for the whole family, but it is an absolutely hilarious watch for anyone over 15 (as recommended by the BBFC).
No.4: National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation (1989)
The story of how the Griswold family’s plans for a big family Christmas goes horribly wrong. Main protagonist, Clark (played by Chevy Chase), insists the festive holiday will be one to remember and that it is, with the family’s pet cat being electrocuted by the Christmas tree, a cindered turkey dinner with unexpected guests from Kansas who, let’s just say aren’t exactly hygienic, show up.
Despite being over 30 years old, this film is timeless and will always be hysterical.
No.3: The Polar Express (2004)
Christmas films don’t get much more magical than this.
The perfect animation movie starring Tom Hanks as the conductor of a dreamlike train, which mysteriously appears outside the houses of chosen children on Christmas Eve. To say this film was well beyond it’s time would be an understatement with such life-like illustrations. The story focuses primarily on 3 children who are taken on the journey of a lifetime to the North Pole, with a few small disasters along the way.
For anyone who has seen this film already, I think we can all agree that the hot-chocolate scene is simply out of this world.
No.2: Home Alone (2009)
Another classic. The story of an eight-year-old boy who was forgotten by his humungous family, as they travel to France for Christmas. Little Kevin McAllister is forced to battle with two burglars who believe the house is empty for Christmas – the perfect opportunity for a thief. For an eight-year-old, this boy has some tricks up his sleeve.
No.1: Elf (2003)
I don’t know anybody who would disagree that Elf is a Christmas ICON. The story of a rather large elf, played by comedic genius Will Ferrell, who discovers he is adopted and wishes to trek into the mysterious world of New York City to find his biological father, who turns out to be on the naughty list.
This movie has everything. The festivities, the romance and the comedy, being the perfect watch for all the family.
