As students, we often feel immense pressure to take part in the massive nightlife and alcohol culture that university presents. Although this can make for a fun night out, it isn’t for everyone. Luckily, Sheffield has much to offer, for an equally fun night out without alcohol; which you won’t even notice isn’t there!
There are plenty of activities in the city centre- with a highlight being Lane 7 on Matilda
Street. With bowling, virtual darts and an arcade, alongside food and drinks, a good time
with friends awaits, minus the focus on alcohol. Lane 7’s late closure time on both a Friday
and a Saturday also allows for the night out feel, without the hangover the next day!
For cinema buffs, Showroom offers a free membership for those aged 16-27, in which
cinema tickets are £6 for any film showing. Therefore, students can head to the cinema,
which is just off the train station, for a blockbuster viewing, without the hefty price tag of a
chain cinema. This is an absolute steal for those wanting a more relaxed night with friends,
which definitely stays in line with a student budget.
Activities a bit closer to home in Endcliffe and Ranmoor are ideal when you’re not wanting to take the trek into the city centre. Right in the heart of Broomhill, a small, independent pottery shop called Pots to Paint is the perfect place for a tranquil afternoon. Furthermore, they also have two adults-only evenings per month. Although you can bring along a drink to these events, there is absolutely no pressure to do so, as you can make the night whatever you would like it to be. Its central location allows for a cute, relaxed and enjoyable evening, illustrating alcohol's forgettable nature and showing it doesn’t make or break your night out!
These are only a taster of the endless alcohol free activities on offer in Sheffield. Hopefully,
the diversity of activities and student deals available illustrates that alcohol does not need to be the reason for a good night with friends.
