Spring has sprung: injecting new life into your daily routine

After such a miserable, rainy and wet winter, spring has finally arrived. The grass is green, and daffodils have started sprouting up in all kinds of places. Sheffield is a green city once more. The mild heat is spurring everyone's urge to visit a pub garden and bathe in the heat - all is well again. The issue is, how do you transition from the darkness of winter to the new colour and life spring brings us?

One way to really appreciate the new season is to be surrounded by it. I personally like to treat myself with a bunch of flowers every so often, to add some joy to my day whenever I see them. They add colour to your room, which is a nice contrast to how heavy university life can feel sometimes. This can also be an inexpensive purchase, with many shops selling bunches of flowers for around £5 or less. It seems like a steep way of cheering yourself up if you maintain this habit, but as a frugal person myself, the subtle impact it has on each day makes it worth it.

Another way to add a spring to your step, as obvious as it may seem, is to go outside, or let the outside in. Take the long way to your lectures, go on walks through the many public parks in Sheffield like Weston Park, or the Botanical Gardens. We are very lucky to have so much green surrounding us, and it is important to make the most of it while we can. Even head into the peaks. There are several buses that go to and from the peaks, which could make for a lovely day out. Even just opening your window when you’re stuck in your room, trying to lock in to let some fresh air in.

The bottom line is, try to fill your life with colour this spring. It is too easy to lose yourself in winter and simple things can add some colour to your life once more.

Listen to some new music, treat yourself to simple joys, add some new flare to your wardrobe. After all, it’s not too long before winter rolls around again and we miss the cool air and spring pastels.
