Spotlight Makeup Brand: Hourglass

Hourglass is a high-end luxury brand that is standing out amongst the crowd in a now seemingly over- saturated market.

With prices starting from £14, the brand constantly releases new and amazing products, not to mention that everything is beautiful- have you seen their packaging?- and with Christmas around the corner, there’s even more reason to get excited; their limited edition holiday collection is on its way. Be prepared to want everything.

The brand is responsible for cult classics and favourites like the Veil Mineral Primer and their Ambient Lighting blushes. Their recently released mascara, the Unlocked Instant Extensions mascara, upon release became a hit amongst professionals and YouTubers alike, and was even voted by VOGUE this year as the best mascara on the market for lengthening lashes. *Immediately pops it into shopping bag*.

But here’s a little bit of background about the brand.

The brand’s dedication to being cruelty free is extremely impressive. Since its launch in 2004 by Carisa Janes, the brand have been dedicated to standing by these ethics. They pledged to become completely vegan by 2020 and to donate 1% of all their profits to the civil rights organisation ‘Nonhuman Rights Project’, an organisation helping to get fundamental rights for animals.

Over the last year or so, I’ve tried out lots of Hourglass’ products and have been impressed by almost every single product that I’ve tried and used. The products are definitely worth the hefty price tags.

Here are my top five picks from the brand:

1. Vanish Airbrush Concealer- £32: This concealer is by far the best concealer I’ve ever used. EVER. The pigment is absolutely insane- all you need is a little dot in the lower corner of your eye (if, for example, you’re doing under eye concealer) and, after blending it out, it covers all of your dark circles. A little goes a long way with this and even after hours of wear it doesn’t crease; this is a must-have. It’s also perfect for concealing spots or blemishes.

2. Vanish Seamless Finish Foundation Brush- £45: I was a devoted beauty blender user before trying out this brush. Its uniquely angled brush head allows you to seamlessly blend around the contours of your face and leaves your base looking absolutely flawless. The bristles are also made out of PETA-approved Taklon bristles- ideal for anyone who suffers from animal allergies (like me!).

3. Ambient Lighting Blush Quad in ‘Ghost’- £45: This palette is easily the prettiest palette I have ever owned. The brand’s Ambient blushes are these gorgeous, marbled products with buildable but pigmented blushes with different finishes. The four colours in the quad can suit and adapt to any makeup look that you’re going for and when you blend them together- *chef’s kiss*. Magic happens.

4. Confessions Lipsticks- £33: I have three shades currently in my makeup bag (although trust me, I plan on getting more). I have the shades ‘No One Knows’, a peach-toned pink, ‘If I Could’, which is a creamy plum, and ‘I Cherish’, a soft pinky-nude. The formula of these lipsticks are incredibly creamy and long-wearing and they pack a serious punch of colour. Plus- all of their cases are refillable!

5. Scattered Light Eyeshadow in ‘Ray’- £28: This is literally like a little pot of star-dust. These eyeshadows are perfect either to pop on top of another eyeshadow or as a stand-out of their own- and again, the pigment is amazing and the colours are to die for. Their compact packaging is also perfect for travelling.

Hourglass is a brand that continues to deliver and I can’t wait to see what they come out with in the future. With brand ethics and quality products like theirs, I couldn’t recommend them enough.
