Songs guaranteed to get you in the Christmas party mood

Despite only a week remaining until December, you might not be in the Christmas spirit yet. It’s inevitable that as soon as the last month of the year arrives, the festive celebrations will too – whether it’s a society meal, ball, or party, these songs are guaranteed to get you in the mood. Stop being a Scrooge and put them on full volume. Your housemates might not appreciate it, but at least you’ll be ready and raring to go.

All I Want for Christmas Is You - Mariah Carey

Last week, we debated whether we should continue ‘defrosting’ Mariah Carey year after year. Whether you love her or hate her – because, let’s face it, she is like marmite – you can’t deny she’s the undisputed queen of Christmas. You’ll recognise the song after the first few beats and then attempt to hit the high notes just like she does (yet it remains a pipe dream for most of us). This song encompasses what Christmas is all about and will have you prancing around your room before any festive event.

It’s Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas - Micheal Bublé

Like Mariah, Micheal Bublé is up there as one of the biggest Christmas icons. His whole festive album could’ve made it into this round up, but, in my eyes, It’s Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas easily takes the top spot. As soon as the Christmas markets start sprouting up and light switch ons are happening left, right and centre, you’re destined to hear this in the background of most Instagram stories. Micheal’s low and dulcet tones may be what you need to embrace the party spirit. Though his songs aren’t the most upbeat, they’re certainly Christmassy.

Santa Tell Me - Ariana Grande

Whether you’re a hardcore Ariana fan or she’s your guilty pleasure (don’t worry, we won’t say a word), of course you know the words to Santa Tell Me. This song was released in 2014, decades later than most Christmas classics, but is no doubt a favourite among Gen Z. I heard it for the first time this year in a supermarket last week and it made me want to bop down the aisles – at least if you’re at home and applying your signature red lip before a Christmas party, you’ll be able to dance like nobody’s watching.

If you’re not planning to open Spotify and listen to at least one of these songs after reading this, you might as well change your name to the Grinch. Let your hair down, put on some sparkles, and make the most of the first festive period post-pandemic.
