Skincare staples for winter

Updated: Feb 13, 2022

It's almost like living in a real-life nightmare when every morning I wake up, and the first thing I worry about isn’t my deadlines, but instead my miserable looking skin. The constantly changing (and freezing) weather along with consistent mask-wearing have only made things worse. So after months of trial and error, and spending a bit too much money on products, I have finally found the gems of the skincare world which are perfect to keep your skin glowing during winter.

Here are four affordable and gentle skincare products that I’ve been using recently to improve my skin, and are also suitable for most skin types. These products are almost guaranteed to make sure that make sure your skin looks healthy, even during the stress of University.

Aesop B & Tea Balancing Toner £25/100mL £37/200mL

This alcohol-free toner is a must-have for everyone. It gives the skin extra hydration and makes the following products (or any others) more easily absorbed. Ingredients like vitamin B5 and green tea within the toner helps to refine pores and balance skin. Once applied, you’ll feel your skin is as soft as a baby.

The Inkey List 15% Vitamin C and EGF Serum £14.99/30mL

This lightweight serum will give your skin's complexion a healthy and radiant glow. A high concentration of Ascorbyl Glucoside that converts to pure Vitamin C brightens your skin effectively while being gentle enough to prevent any reactions. Plus, the naturally derived EGF (Epidermal Growth Factor) helps renew and tighten skin. Trust me, keep using it day and night, and you’ll see an amazing result.

The Inkey List Vitamin B, C and E Moisturizer £4.99/50mL

This daily moisturizer includes everything that you could possibly need for healthy skin: clarifying B3 (Niacinamide) to help balance any oil, the brightening antioxidant Vitamin C, and soothing Vitamin E. It has a silky texture and is perfect for either oily or combination skin.

Avène Tolerance Control Soothing Skin Recovery Cream for Sensitive Skin £17.5/40ml

My skin has been hypersensitive and reactive for months, and I had no clue what to do with it. However, after using this soothing cream for two days, the redness and itchiness have mostly gone! This cream has also helped heal multiple breakouts. Most importantly, the texture of this cream is thinner than most similar products but doesn’t make it less effective, so people with oily skin can safely use it too.

Good products are not necessarily expensive, and you might think that the price will reflect the quality but whether products are suitable and helpful for your skin matters more than the price. A good start to your skincare routine will be with the products I have recommended today. It is also important to remember that a healthy lifestyle is the most important thing for having good skin.
