My favourite live entertainment venues in Sheffield

Even though many of us have had to leave the glorious steel city behind for a while due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Sheffield still lives on in our hearts.

The live entertainment scene is one of the many wonderful things about the South Yorkshire city that attracts lots of people each year.

With that being said, here are 5 of my favourite live entertainment venues in Sheffield!

5. The 02 Academy

This venue is part of the national 02 Academy chain, with their other venues based in various cities all over the country. Most mainstream chart-topping bands and artists will be able to say they have played in an 02 Academy before, as they are the perfect stepping stone between grassroot venues and arenas, providing a great atmosphere. The 02 Academy in Sheffield is no exception!

4. The Leadmill

Located within metres of Sheffield Hallam University and acting as the perfect venue for students, The Leadmill has been entertaining people for over 40 years. A mixture of top quality live gigs and student nights are put on each week in normal times and make for a fun experience. This is the perfect place to come to if you love music and are looking for a friendly and lively student atmosphere.

3. Molly Malones

This Irish Bar is another popular venue among students in the city. It’s the sort of place where every evening has a different agenda; karaoke, quiz nights and live bands. The bar regularly accommodates live acts and all the ones I’ve been lucky to see there so far have played to a high standard!

2. West Street Live

Located on the famous West Street, (well, famous to students) West Street Live is home to the most extravagant drinks menu and varied live acts in the whole of Sheffield. From local heavy rock bands to Queen tribute acts, the venue makes for a memorable night out with friends and the permanent queue outside its entrance says it all. For the record, their Wine Gum cocktails are a must-try!

1. Foundry

And finally, my all time favourite venue in Sheffield is the Foundry! There aren’t many other reasons why besides the nostalgia, the fact it is in the University of Sheffield Students‘ Union and the amazing evenings that I have personally experienced there. From Roar to Pop Tarts to seeing live acts perform, the Foundry has it all and I would definitely recommend a trip here when it reopens!
