With America’s election sparking conversations around women’s rights, there’s no better

time to turn to the songs, shows, and movies that make us feel seen, empowered, and

capable of anything! Here’s a roundup of empowering music, movies, and shows that lift me

up and I hope they do the same for you!

First on my list? Taylor Swift, of course! She has the talent for turning personal experiences

into anthems which women resonate with. Let’s start with ‘The Man’, an absolute banger

which calls out the double standards women face daily. It’s bold and witty, and acts as a way

to motivate us into striving! Then there’s ‘You Need to Calm Down’, a song which celebrates

love, self-acceptance and equality, empowering listeners to stand strong in who they are.

And 'Karma'? It’s a perfect (and sassy) reminder that being kind and true to yourself will

eventually pay off, even when things seem tough. For the moments that feel overwhelming,

‘Clean’ is a beautiful anthem of resilience, as Taylor sings about healing, letting go, and

finding strength in new beginnings. And then there’s ‘You’re on Your Own, Kid’, a personal

favourite. It’s a bittersweet reminder that life may not always go according to plan, but you’ve got this. This song perfectly captures resilience and cherishing the journey.

Then there’s Barbie, a movie that's way more than pink and sparkles. Greta Gerwig’s Barbie

is a love letter to girlhood, womanhood, and the beauty of finding your identity. It’s a

celebration of female strength, ambition, and individuality. Margot Robbie’s performance is witty, bold, and learns that there’s no single way to be a woman. This reminder feels both

refreshing and reassuring. And America Ferrera’s powerful monologue perfectly captures the challenges of being a woman, it’s emotionally moving and a reminder of our inner strength.

And finally, Fleabag. Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s character redefines what it means to be

flawed, fierce, and real. The show dives into messy relationships, complicated family

dynamics, and struggles with self-worth. Fleabag is funny, raw, and brutally honest. It’s

refreshingly relatable, showing us that even in our lowest moments, we have the strength to

move forward. There’s a unique power in her vulnerability, and in how she owns her

imperfections.

These are my go to pieces of media which remind me to embrace who I am, imperfections

and all. At the end of the day, empowerment isn’t about being perfect, it’s about being true to ourselves.
