Looking after yourself in a third lockdown- here are some tips!

Who doesn’t love a good pamper session from time to time? With a third national lockdown still imposing on our lives, hair and beauty salons are yet to reopen. I’m sure this is becoming more bothersome for those of you like me, with brows that could really benefit from a good shaping by a professional and hair that could do with a chop.

Fear not, though, because being in and out of lockdowns for almost a year has forced me to create a makeshift salon in my own home. Through this article, I will share ways to pamper yourself within budget.

There is no better feeling than removing your makeup and beginning to detox from a long day spent at a laptop screen. There is a wonderful array of facial products out there to choose from, but I find nothing more relaxing than putting on a face mask to purify my skin or using pore strips to keep my skin healthy and then finishing with a light moisturiser to feel refreshed.

One of my favourite salon treatments to have done at my local beauty salon is getting my eyebrows revamped. As a substitute, I have been using brow tinting kits and plucking out those annoying stray hairs with tweezers. However, the one aspect that I miss having done is waxing and shaping my brows, especially by someone who knows what they’re doing. Tweezers can only do so much, so I invested in a facial hair razor which, with careful precision, almost (and I say almost) does the trick.

If you’re missing your regular trips to get acrylics done, do not worry. Some beauty salons have an alternative; stick on acrylics. These are a lifesaver if you want a quick and easy method that is personalised to you and not just like fake nails you can buy at Superdrug. Beauticians will shape and paint the nails to your preference, and I have seen some incredible nail art recently on my Instagram feed.

If you don’t get acrylics very often, but can’t function without painted nails, then block out some time on a Sunday evening, remove your chipped nail varnish and apply a fresh coat of polish, prepping you to start the new week. I always do a fresh set of nails at the end of any pamper session as I find it so satisfying, and it really does make me feel more put together.

Whether you’re busy working during lockdown or using the time to rewatch your favourite programmes on Netflix, make sure you take time out of your week to focus on looking after yourself and to unwind from the current situation with a good old pamper session.
