Liberty Belle's take on the 2022 BRIT Awards

Updated: Feb 24, 2022

The BRIT Awards made their glamorous comeback earlier this month, with everything going 'back to normal' after last year’s cut-back.

We all know Adele was the biggest winner and took three trophies home, and of Anne-Marie’s fall mid-performance – and we are definitely aware of Liam Gallanger’s helicopter entrance, but these were not the only highlights of the night. This year’s BRITs provided us with exciting content from some of Britain’s finest new faces.

Emphasis was put on the representation of British Black music at this year’s awards. It would be impossible not to mention Dave’s fiery performance of In the Fire with Meekz, Giggs, Ghetts and Fredo. The song talked about the young rappers' tough upbringings and struggles making a living, as well as calling out racism in the modern day era.

In addition to the burning raps, the choir performance and guitar solo would have undoubtedly given those watching goosebumps. The Best Hip-Hop Act winner did an excellent job in igniting the stage.

Little Simz, also known as Simbi, wowed with her performances, which gained wide recognition all over social media. The 27-year-old British rapper was nominated in four categories at this year’s BRITs –– Best New Artist, Album of the Year, Artist of the Year and Best Hip-Hop/Grime/Rap Act, and won Best New Artist. It was impossible to tell this was her first appearance at the awards with her stable vocals and confidence.

From rapping about social injustice in Introvert and Woman, to songs that gave us a

colourful, cáfe-like vibe, the transition was seamless. She has shown her potential and it is fair to say she deserves the title of Best New Artist.

Holly Humberstone has been in the spotlight since she released her debut single Deep

End, with the success of the song resulting in her being invited to perform with Lewis Capaldi during his last European tour. The indie singer was awarded Rising Star at this year’s awards. Being a newbie to the BRITs stage, she was a bit shaky at the beginning, but nonetheless her soft, soothing voice amazed everyone.

The performance started from a stage full of dancers to just her playing the piano, finishing the song with her beautiful vocals. At that very moment, she was shining on the stage brighter than a star.

This year’s BRIT Awards provided an opportunity for Britain’s newest artists to showcase their abilities and potential. We'll soon see if they spring to popularity in the UK's music scene, so keep an eye out.
