Women have been at the centre of fashion over the last decade and there have been countless iconic moments, right from Princess Diana's revenge dress to Rihanna's show-stopping yellow Guo Pei MET dress. To celebrate Women's History Month as it comes to a close, here are five iconic dresses worn by women.

Coco Chanel’s, Little Black Dress (1926)

At the time of the Great Depression era, Coco Chanel introduced the timeless little black dress, accessible to every woman and for every occasion. Black, which was mainly used for mourning, was hence validated in the fashion world. Now, the colour has become the sign of freedom and power for modern women.

Hedy Lamarr's Star Dress, Ziegfeld Girl (1941)

In the film, Hedy, who was called 'the most beautiful woman in the world', 'stepped out of a dream' in this flowy gown of the stars, just like a goddess. However, she wasn't only famous for her beauty, but also her intelligence, which contributed to the development of technology – and this glamorous look is still inspiring today’s fashion designers.

Audrey Hepburn's Embassy Ballgown, My Fair Lady (1964)

There’s no doubt that Eliza walking down the stairs elegantly in this Regency-style gown was one of the most memorable moments in Audrey’s movies. To me, the most brilliant part is the gathered sheer design at the back, which looked like butterfly wings, making the dress even more graceful and ethereal. Kendall Jenner and Anya Taylor Joy have both channelled the look.

Madonna's Strapless White Gown, The Oscars (1991)

The pop queen is an undeniable fashion icon and has brought us so many unforgettable outfits over three decades, but my favourite is this glamorous shimmering dress. She recreated Marilyn Monroe’s iconic look at Kennedy's birthday, yet created another indelible moment in pop history. Madonna's look perfectly matched Michael Jackson’s, when they sweetly walked side-by-side.

Zendaya's Knight Armour Gown, Met Gala (2018)

Zendaya never fails to amaze us time and again with her exceptional red carpet looks, and this talented young fashion icon definitely pulled off her outfit in the religious-themed party of the year. The unconventional chainmail gown by Atelier Versace, which paid homage to the legendary knight Joan of Arc, once again, proved femininity doesn’t have to be soft and delicate.
