‘Friends’: the ultimate comfort show

FRIENDS is one of the best comfort shows - with its witty lines, heartwarming feel and the undeniable connection between the cast - it can’t not be a must-watch show. When it’s a rainy day and all you want to do is sit down with a hot drink, Friends is the show to watch. When you’re ill and feeling down, Friends is bound to cheer you up. For any occasion, Friends is the show to turn to, I promise it won’t disappoint.

Each character plays their own role within Friends and without one of them, the show doesn’t feel complete. Joey always makes you laugh with his simple-minded nature and slow reactions but warms your day with his kind heart. Chandler makes every line a good one with his dry and sarcastic humour that not only mocks his friends but also himself. Who doesn’t love a bit of self-depreciation? The friendship between the two of them is unmatched; if you’re a Joey, you need a Chandler in your life, and vice versa. Ross is the boring palaeontologist who delivers some of the best scenes and lines; one of my top favourites is ‘The One Where Ross Is Fine” where you will come to see that he is not fine.

Monica, Phoebe and Rachel complete the dynamic of the show. Phoebe is your slightly loopy friend who you can’t help but love. Monica, (Ross’ sister and later Chandler’s wife) is the neat freak who cares and protects everyone. The mother hen, if you will. The relationship between her and Chandler will make you swoon, we can only dream of love like it. Rachel is stylish and glamorous and constantly has an on-and-off relationship with Ross, while they go through rough times, they are definitely endgame. It is impossible to choose a favourite, they all serve their own role so well and each brings a smile to my face.

Friends was, is and always will be one of the best shows ever made; no question. It made my childhood and still continues to be the show that I turn to for every situation. Every Friends fan broke a little at the news of Matthew Perry’s death. It will be impossible to watch the show the same, knowing he is no longer with us. I hope Gunther greets him with a nice cup of coffee ☕️ .
