Cosy reads for autumn 2023

As autumn arrives and the nights start to draw in, there is nothing better than hunkering

down with a cosy book.

If you are searching for the perfect autumnal read look no further. Here are some of my favourite warm and thrilling books for the season.

Before the Coffee Gets Cold by Toshikazu Kawaguchi is by far the cosiest book I have ever

read. It follows four short stories of ‘The Lovers’, ‘Husband and Wife’, ‘The Sisters’ and ‘Mother and Child’, which all create an emotional connection between the reader and the character through time travel. The novel is beautifully paced and a quick read, yet still manages to deal with the hard hitting realities of life and death in a comforting manner.

The Secret History by Donna Tartt follows a group of elitist students under the influence

of a singular professor in an elite New England college. The mystery behind this

contemporary classic is thrilling to the reader and compels you to consume the book

quickly. This book comes with trigger warnings for sexual assault,

suicide and hate speech.

Little Women by Louisa May Alcott is a classic loved by many generations of book worms.

After reading this and recognising the resemblance between Alcott and the main

character, Jo, the book takes on even more meaning through the strong female representation.

Greta Gerwig’s film adaptation of this read is also sensational with the talented

cast of Timothee Chalamet, Saorise Ronan, Florence Pugh and Emma Watson.

Whilst being wholesome, the novel discusses the role of women, morality, social class and love as themes throughout.
