Celebrity Halloween 2023

It’s that time of the year when you scroll through your Instagram feed and come across back-to-back pictures of girls dressed all as Roller-skating Barbie, or Wednesday Addams. As always, spearheading the annual creative costume phenomenon are all our favourite celebrities.

Celebrity Halloween costume reveals are one of the most iconic cultural moments of the year – just behind the Met Gala. At a close second, celebrity costumes always impress and never fail to make you reconsider your own costume choice. Maybe that’s just me.

The costumes of 2022 were always going to be hard to beat: Kendall Jenner capitalised off of her viral meme by dressing up as a badly cut cucumber, and sister Kylie Jenner stole the show in her Bride of Frankenstein costume. An honourable mention goes to Cardi B as Marge Simpson, which in my opinion was executed perfectly.

2023 saw celebrities go bigger and bolder than ever before. I’m sure we all saw that video of Lil Nas X dressed as a used tampon. Other costumes included Jade Thirlwall and Amelia Dimoldenberg both dressed as Mr Bean, Ice Spice as Betty Boop, and Zayn Malik as Voldemort.

It was also the year of Freaky Friday identity-switching: Edward Norton traded his movie script for a football and transformed into David Beckham, with his wife Shauna Robertson as Victoria. Dwayne Johnson also sported what appeared to be a questionable Beckham costume. Sharon Osbourne took inspiration from Bianca Censori with her costume consisting of a singular purple pillow.

Although I loved a great many costumes, one stood out to me more than the rest – Heidi Klum as a peacock. Heidi never fails to amaze and entertain with her creativity. This year, she and 10 Cirque de Soleil performers came together to create a mesmerising peacock. Every year, she manages to stun more than the last, and considering her rainworm costume of last year, it says a lot!

Celebrities have verged on the lighter, funnier side of Halloween costumes this year.

In the ongoing debate as to whether Halloween costumes should focus on sex appeal or comedy, this year, it appears as though comedy won by a landslide.
