Black-owned beauty brands to check out

Updated: Nov 12, 2021

Since the rise of the BLM movement during the 2020 lockdown, the world has tried to find ways to support its black peers. One of these ways is making sure to support black businesses. There are a lot of black-owned beauty brands that definitely deserve more hype or are not looked into enough so here are some of my personal favourites

that I recommend:

Fenty Beauty

There is no doubt that Fenty Beauty is one of the most popular Black-Owned beauty brands as it is owned by the Queen of pop herself, Rihanna.

Rihanna launched Fenty beauty in 2017 and set out to create makeup products that suited all skin types and tones. It is safe to say that she has had immense success with this, with one of her bestsellers being her foundations that have a range of 50 inclusive shades.

As a huge fan of Fenty beauty myself, I can honestly say that her products are some of the best I have ever used. Some of my personal favourites include:

The Eaze drop blurring tint (£25)

This product gives instantly blurred skin and is extremely lightweight making it a great alternative for foundation - especially if you’re going for a more natural look.

Fenty Beauty Gloss Bomb Heat Lip Luminizer and Plumper (£19)

A great everyday lip gloss, this will have your lips looking plump and give you just the right amount of shine. It also comes in 4 different colours: Fussy, Fenty Glow, Hot Chocolit and Cherry.

Camille Rose Naturals

Camille Rose Naturals is a haircare brand founded by Janell Stephens that makes sure to accommodate naturally curly hair.

From creating her most popular products in her small kitchen to now having a multi-million-dollar company, Janell Stephens has created a vegan hair care brand that fulfils the needs of curly hair. Some of the best products that I have used from the brand so far are:

The Curl Love Moisture Milk (£8-£11)

This is a leave-in conditioning cream that will leave your hair hydrating and soft. Not to mention that it smells amazing with a combination of macadamia, rosehip, aloe and green tea!

The Buritti Nectar Repair Oil

This hair oil is made with Buritti fruit from the Amazonian rainforest. It helps repair brittle hair and dry scalp, Perfect if your hair needs a little bit of TLC.

Juvia’s Place

Known for their highly pigmented colours and their famous eyeshadow palette ‘The Nubian”, Juvia’s Place is definitely a brand that you should have in your makeup bag.

The brand celebrates the beauty of Africa, with every product and colour having a meaning behind it.

I definitely think that Juvia’s Place is one of the most underrated beauty brands out there. Here are some of their products that I recommend:

The Warrior Eyeshadow Palette (£20)

This palette contains the perfect blend of warm golds, browns, and bronzes. A perfect multi-use palette for a simple daytime look that can then be layered to create a dramatic evening look.

Bronzed Duo Bronzer (£25)

These bronzer palettes come in a range of shades and are so soft. They’re also long-wear making them a great choice if you want your makeup to last.
