Artist Spotlight - Elodie

British radio stations rarely play foreign-language music, and so while on holiday this year, I took the opportunity to explore Italian music culture.

One of the artists I discovered was Elodie (Elodie Di Patrizi).

The Italian singer, actress, and model gradually rose to fame in the 2010s in Italy and deserves recognition for her hard work.

Elodie started in the modelling industry before trying her luck on the third season of X Factor Italy in 2009. Unfortunately, she didn't have much success in Simon Cowell's singing competition and was sent home in the early stages of the show. However, in 2015, Elodie made a second attempt at success by appearing in Amici di Maria De Filippi, another famous Italian talent show. This time the singer placed second and signed with Universal Music Italy shortly after. The origins of her career send an inspirational message about perseverance and determination.

In 2016, Elodie released her debut album 'Un'altra vita', which peaked at number two in the Italian music charts.

Her first top 10 hit was her collaboration with Michele Bravi and Gué Pequeno, 'Nero Bali' published in 2018

The Italian singer, actress and model appears to have a talent for producing good collaborations. Her song ‘Margarita’ with Italian rapper Marracash became one of Italy's most successful songs in the summer of 2019. The song debuted at number six on the Italian Singles Chart and number one on the Italian Airplay Chart.

Her first number one on the Italian singles chart was her collaboration with Italian rapper Rkomi published in December last year, ‘La coda del diabolo’. My personal favourite of her songs.

While Elodie deserves praise for her success in recent years, she should also receive recognition for her charity work.

All the proceeds from her single ‘Bagno a Mezzanotte', released in March this year, are given to the charity Save the Children to help refugees from the war in Ukraine.

In recent years, some people have begun to question the usefulness of creative industries. But singles like this one prove that the entertainment industry provides a platform for people to speak about social and political issues.

Elodie has also made her first attempt at breaking into the film industry, making her lead acting debut in 'Ti mangio il curore'. The film, based on the novel of the same name by Carlo Bonini and Giuliano Foschini, premiered at the 79th Venice International Film Festival on 3rd September.

Elodie’s range is undeniable and deserves success in the UK, as well as in Italy.
